Diamond pixelmon anvil12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() This provided the early high pressure pioneers with the ability to directly observe the properties of a material while under pressure. The diamond anvil cell became the most versatile pressure generating device that has a single characteristic that sets it apart from the other pressure devices – its optical transparency. The first prototypes were limited in their pressure range and there was not a reliable way to calibrate the pressure. The principles of the DAC are similar to the Bridgman anvils, but in order to achieve the highest possible pressures without breaking the anvils, they were made of the hardest known material: a single crystal diamond. The first diamond anvil cell was created in 1957-1958. This device could achieve pressure of a few gigapascals, and was used in electrical resistance and compressibility measurements. The anvils were made of tungsten carbide (WC). Percy Williams Bridgman, the great pioneer of high-pressure research during the first half of the 20th century, revolutionized the field of high pressures with his development of an opposed anvil device with small flat areas that were pressed one against the other with a lever-arm. ![]() The study of materials at extreme conditions, high pressure and high temperature uses a wide array of techniques to achieve these conditions and probe the behavior of material while in the extreme environment. Shown in the image above is the part which compresses the central assembly. History The first diamond anvil cell in the NIST museum at Gaithersburg. Diamond is a very hard and virtually incompressible material, thus minimising the deformation and failure of the anvils that apply the force. Typical culet sizes for diamond anvils are 100–250 micron (µm), such that a very high pressure is achieved by applying a moderate force on a sample with a small area, rather than applying a large force on a large area. Where p is the pressure, F the applied force, and A the area. The operation of the diamond anvil cell relies on a simple principle: Much higher temperatures (up to 7000 K) can be achieved with laser-induced heating, and cooling down to millikelvins has been demonstrated. Attaching electrodes to the sample allows electrical and magnetoelectrical measurements as well as heating up the sample to a few thousand degrees. Magnetic and microwave fields can be applied externally to the cell allowing nuclear magnetic resonance, electron paramagnetic resonance and other magnetic measurements. In this way, X-ray diffraction and fluorescence optical absorption and photoluminescence Mössbauer, Raman and Brillouin scattering positron annihilation and other signals can be measured from materials under high pressure. The sample can be viewed through the diamonds and illuminated by X-rays and visible light. The pressure-transmitting medium is enclosed by a gasket and the two diamond anvils. ![]() The uniaxial pressure supplied by the DAC may be transformed into uniform hydrostatic pressure using a pressure-transmitting medium, such as argon, xenon, hydrogen, helium, paraffin oil or a mixture of methanol and ethanol. Common pressure standards include ruby fluorescence, and various structurally simple metals, such as copper or platinum. Pressure may be monitored using a reference material whose behavior under pressure is known. Ī DAC consists of two opposing diamonds with a sample compressed between the polished culets (tips). Notable examples include the non-molecular ice X, polymeric nitrogen and metallic phases of xenon, lonsdaleite, and potentially metallic hydrogen. The device has been used to recreate the pressure existing deep inside planets to synthesize materials and phases not observed under normal ambient conditions. It enables the compression of a small (sub- millimeter-sized) piece of material to extreme pressures, typically up to around 100–200 gigapascals, although it is possible to achieve pressures up to 770 gigapascals (7,700,000 bars or 7.7 million atmospheres). The culets (tip) of the two diamond anvils are typically 100–250 microns across.Ī diamond anvil cell ( DAC) is a high-pressure device used in geology, engineering, and materials science experiments. Cleaning mac air screen12/31/2023 ![]() We’ll also talk about signs that it might be time to get help from a professional to clean your device. In this guide, we’ll show you how to clean Macbook screen and give you tips on how to clean other parts of the machine. Cleaning will also keep dust, dirt, and smudges from building up on your screen, which could damage it. Keeping your MacBook clean is a must if you want it to last and work well. We’ll show you step-by-step how to clean your MacBook’s screen and give you tips on how to keep it looking good. How often do you clean your MacBook screen and keyboard? Do you have any special tips? Let us know down in the comments.12.5 What Cleaner Can I Use on MacBook Screen? MacBooks are fingerprint magnets, regardless of how safe you are. The more often you clean your MacBook screen and keyboard, the easier it is every subsequent time. Once you’ve done the first round of cleaning to make your MacBook look brand new, I recommend doing it on a regular basis after that. Thankfully, there’s a free app called KeyboardCleanTool that locks your keyboard for exactly this reason. You will, however, need a way to lock your keyboard so your MacBook isn’t responding to the keys as you press them to clean them. Then, use the dry side to remove any liquid spots and shine things up a bit. To clean your MacBook keyboard, I recommend spraying a very, very small amount of the WHOOSH solution onto a microfiber cloth and wiping the keys down. In fact, if things get too bad, the debris can even cause stuck keys and other issues. What about cleaning your MacBook’s keyboard? Much like your MacBook’s display, your keyboard can quickly get greasy and gather dust and other debris. If you do this, the solution may drip inside your Mac and cause damage. One key thing to remember is to never spray the Screen Shine solution directly on your MacBook’s screen. Then, flip the microfiber cloth over and use the dry side and repeat the process to remove any liquid and polish the screen. You should notice pretty quickly that the solution and cloth are removing smudges and fingerprints from the display. Once there’s a small amount of solution on the cloth, gently wipe the display from left to right, starting at the bottom and moving upwards towards the webcam. You can use the cloth provided by WHOOSH or any other microfiber cloth. Then, simply spray a small amount of the Screen Shine solution onto one side of the microfiber cloth. ![]() Make sure there are no large debris on the display. It’s much easier to clean the display and spot the fingerprints and debris when the MacBook is powered off and the display is black. Once you have the WHOOSH Screen Cleaner Kit, it’s pretty easy to clean your MacBook screen and make it look brand new.įirst, you’ll want to completely power off your MacBook and unplug it from any accessories or chargers. In addition to the Screen Cleaner Kit, WHOOSH also sells a larger bottle of Screen Shine solution you’ll just need to prove your own microfiber cloth. In fact, this is why Apple Stores around the world have used WHOOSH to clean displays for years. It’s free from all of the solutions that Apple says not to use. WHOOSH’s Screen Shine solution consists of mild detergents, distilled water, and a shine agent. Subscribe to 9to5mac on YouTube for more videos It also includes a 0.3oz bottle of Screen Shine that’s perfect for travel and can slide perfectly in your backpack or laptop bag. ![]() This kit includes a 3.4oz bottle of the company’s Screen Shine cleaning solution as well as three microfiber cloths. There are multiple different options from WHOOSH, but my favorite is the Screen Cleaner Kit. With all of Apple’s warnings in mind, what is the best way to clean your MacBook screen? Whenever I get asked this question, my number one recommendation is to check out products from WHOOSH. Namely, the company says to avoid using any screen cleaner that contains acetone, as it can be harmful to the display and the display coating.Īpple also cautions not to use window cleaners, household cleaners, aerosol sprays, solvents, ammonia, abrasives, or cleaners containing hydrogen peroxide. How to clean your MacBook screenĪpple has a support document that explains some of the things to keep in mind when cleaning your MacBook’s display. Head below for the details on how to clean your MacBook screen, with some bonus tips on cleaning the keyboard as well. Luckily, this is a pretty easy problem to solve to help keep your MacBook screen looking as good as the day you unboxed it. If you’re a heavy MacBook user, chances are your screen quickly gets covered in finger prints, grease, and other debris. ![]()

Red dead redemption 2 release date12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() If there’s one thing we expect from an adventure in the Wild West, it’s to experience, well, the Wild West and everything that comes with it, and the Red Dead games have always provided this for us. Red Dead Redemption 3 setting: When will it be set? If this is the case, first footage of the game could be shown at a later date, such as 2024 or perhaps even later. Rockstar could decide to keep its cards close to its chest this time around, and only reveal footage when it’s absolutely sure it’ll meet the release deadline. Keep in mind, however, that Red Dead Redemption 2 also experienced multiple delays. It’s not impossible that we could see the first trailer for a new Red Dead game as early as 2023, if we’re thinking optimistically. We can do this by looking back on Red Dead Redemption 2’s very first trailer, which was uploaded two years ago in 2016. Working under the assumption that we probably won’t see a new Red Dead game until at least 2025, we can begin to create a timeline of events leading up to its release. They know players want to see something of their upcoming games and so they spread out their trailers sparingly for years before they’re released. ![]() Rockstar games have a penchant for the cinematic and the company’s trailers are no exception. Red Dead Redemption 3 trailer: When will we see the first footage? If GTA 6 – rumoured to be Rockstar’s next game – is anywhere near as successful online, we may well see Red Dead Redemption 3 pushed back another four to five years. The game as a whole has provided Rockstar with more than $6 billion’s worth of revenue, which could well be one of the reasons there were no new games released between 20. GTA V’s online mode is still played by thousands of people, people who are constantly paying for microtransactions and new DLC. The most recent entry, Grand Theft Auto V (GTA V), was first released in 2013 and has been printing money for Rockstar ever since. That won’t be helped by the monolith that is the Grand Theft Auto franchise. We might have to start preparing ourselves for a 2025 release date at the earliest. Taking into account that the third game released just last year, we can see the Red Dead series typically takes at least six years to release and eight at most. The first entry in the series, Red Dead Revolver, released way back in 2004 and the original Red Dead Redemption came out in 2010. However, Red Dead games have a history of taking a long time to gestate. From 1999 to 2013, the developer had a new game on store shelves every year. Once upon a time, Rockstar actually released at least a single game every year. (spoiler alert: not much) Red Dead Redemption 3 release date: When will it come out? Cubase elements 7 comparison12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() Instrument tracks and instrument rack in Cubase allow for a much more smoother experience because they allow you exactly that but without cumbersome project management you would have to exert when doing the same thing in REAPER (for example, I always hide MIDI tracks from MCP and audio tracks from arrange) Also, if you have logitech gaming mouse, you can use Lua to create simple scripts to toggle various tools in Cubase) it seems that REAPER developers just don't understand workflow people expect from a DAW when using it as a composing tool.įor example, one track paradigm in REAPER is handy in a lot of situations, but when you want to have tons of MIDI tracks that send MIDI to samplers like Kontakt (whose audio output you may want to send to multiple tracks) you will probably want to separate MIDI tracks from audio tracks. While REAPER has a lot of awesome things (mouse modifiers are something you really start to appreciate when using Cubase.but there are workaround when it comes to this. My thoughts on the Cubase vs REAPER subject when it comes to doing extensive MIDI compositions. When it started struggling, it was still easy to stop playback and my computer wasn't brought down to its knees. Cubase on the other hand didn't have these problems. A few times I had to use task manager to kill REAPER. ![]() It seems it's quite similar to anticipative FX processing feature of REAPER.Īnother interesting thing I noticed was that after REAPER started struggling, it was sometimes hard to stop the playback and even close it (whole program became unresponsive together with the rest of the computer). However, at higher buffer sizes, Cubase disables ASIO guard so that probably contributes to these results.ĭisabling ASIO guard completely for all buffer sizes significantly impacts Cubase performance. In short, Cubase beats REAPER except when using buffer size of 1024. REAPER - Playback with enabled 25 tracks peaks at 97% CPU, 26 enabled tracks make nasty crackles appear after 14 seconds of playback.Cubase - Playback with enabled 23 tracks at 87% CPU, 24 enabled tracks make light crackles appear right after starting playback.REAPER - Playback with enabled 17 tracks peaks at 96% CPU, 18 enabled tracks make nasty crackles appear after 12 seconds of playback.Cubase - Playback with enabled 22 tracks peaks at 95% CPU, 23 enabled tracks make light crackles appear right after starting playback.REAPER - Playback with enabled 10 tracks peaks at 95% CPU, 11 enabled tracks make nasty crackles appear after 5 seconds of playback.Cubase - Playback with enabled 14 tracks peaks at 65% CPU, 15 enabled tracks make light crackles appear right after starting playback.I'm using Windows 10 圆4, with overclocked (3.8 Ghz as opposed to stock 2.67 Ghz) QuadCore Intel Core i5-750 processor CPU readout was obtained by looking at the task manager while playing back supplied projects. Performance was measured using 3 buffer sizes: 64, 2. These are relevant REAPER settings used for testing:Īnd these are relevant Cubase settings used for testing: That's the only reasons these project files don't have more tracks. Maximum amounts of separate tracks set that way is 40 in Cubase. In Cubase, instead of muting, enable tracks instead.Īlso note that due to Cubase Elements limitations, I had to use both instrument tracks and rack instruments. In REAPER, simply unmute each track until you get crackles (REAPER will not process muted tracks by default). Each Kontakt insance has two instruments from Kontakt 5 factory library. My computer is not the most powerful one and performance is a big thing for me so I decided to test trial version of Cubase Elements 8.0.10 against REAPER 5.0 and the results were astonishing.Įvery track in the project is using one instance of Kontakt 5 coupled with ReaComp and ReaEQ downloaded from here. Last time I checked Cubase out, it was at version 5 and it's performance was sub-par when compared to REAPER. So I started looking into other DAWs, and Cubase felt like the most closest thing (feature-wise) to a good tool for composition. It's awesome for a lot of stuff, but it's missing MIDI features that could really speed up composition workflow. ![]() I've started feeling a bit tired of constantly trying to turn REAPER into DAW for composition. ![]()

Spectre meltdown apple12/31/2023 ![]() ![]() Most discussions about Spectre have involved bounds checks, so this section considers that case as well. To understand how Spectre works, it’s useful to think about how security-sensitive programming language operations (like any property access in JavaScript) get executed in JavaScriptCore on a modern processor. Hence, Spectre is not just an attack on JavaScriptCore itself but also everything that is callable from JavaScript. Spectre breaks this property of JavaScriptCore because untrusted JavaScript or WebAssembly now has a theoretical path to reading all of the host process’s address space.ĭOM APIs and system APIs called by DOM APIs also use branches to enforce their security properties, and those are callable from JavaScript. It should be possible to load untrusted JavaScript or WebAssembly code into your process without the risk of your process’s memory being leaked to the JavaScript code except in cases where you explicitly export data to JavaScript via our C or Objective-C binding API. JavaScriptCore is meant to be a secure language virtual machine. For example, if some type contains an integer at offset 8 while another type contains a pointer at offset 8, then an attacker could use Spectre to bypass the type check that is supposed to ensure that you can’t use the integer to craft an arbitrary pointer. This could allow an attacker to read arbitrary memory. Almost all bounds checks can be bypassed to read arbitrarily out-of-bounds. The most impacted subsystem is JavaScriptCore (WebKit’s JavaScript engine). ![]() Spectre means that branches are no longer sufficient for enforcing the security properties of read operations in WebKit. ![]() Safari 11.0.2 for El Capitan and Sierra. You can check if your Safari and WebKit are patched by verifying the full version number in About Safari. High Sierra 10.13.2 Supplemental Update. The first of these mitigations shipped on Jan 8, 2018: This document explains how Spectre and Meltdown affect existing WebKit security mechanisms and what short-term and long-term fixes WebKit is deploying to provide protection against this new class of attacks. Therefore, Spectre mitigations that fix the branch problem also prevent an attacker from using WebKit as the starting point for Meltdown. Mounting a Meltdown attack via JavaScript running in WebKit requires first bypassing branch-based security checks, like in the case of a Spectre attack. Not all CPUs are affected by Meltdown and Meltdown is being mitigated by operating system changes. Meltdown means that userland code, such as JavaScript running in a web browser, can read kernel memory. Spectre means that an attacker can control branches, so branches alone are no longer adequate for enforcing security properties. WebKit relies on branch instructions to enforce what untrusted JavaScript and WebAssembly code can do.Meltdown impacts WebKit because WebKit’s security properties must first be bypassed (via Spectre) before WebKit can be used to mount a Meltdown attack. WebKit is affected because in order to render modern web sites, any web JavaScript engine must allow untrusted JavaScript code to run on the user’s processor. To initiate a Spectre- or Meltdown-based attack, the attacker must be able to run code on the victim’s processor. These issues apply to all modern processors and allow attackers to gain read access to parts of memory that were meant to be secret. ![]() Security researchers have recently uncovered security issues known as Meltdown and Spectre. ![]() |
